“This is Rory,” James said to Kandace.

Smiling, she nodded at him as she watched the gate close behind them, getting the sudden feeling that they were trapped and she had to quickly remind herself that it was to keep the things out, not to keep the people in.

“Nice to meet you,” Kandace said, offering her hand.

“Wonderful,” he said, taking her hand in both of his. “So wonderful to see so many newcomers.”

Maria frowned, rubbing her belly, “Would it be possible to get a room? My son needs to lie down.”

Holding the child in his arms, Scotty smiled at the young mother, seeing the concern in her eyes. “Three rooms should do it,” he said. “One for the ladies, one for the two boys and one for this guy,” he said, nodding down at Juan.

Surprised, Kandace shook her head, “We don’t need so many,” she said, “We can share one room. It’s not right to ask so much after all you’ve done.”

“Nonsense,” Rory said, ‘You are welcome here.” Seeing the concern still in her eyes, he smiled again, “I insist.”

Still holding her hand, he started to lead her to the front desk, letting the others follow.
